MarketDeal24.Com – Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe is all set to declare a state of emergency on Tuesday in an attempt to contain the coronavirus spreading across the country, the Yomiuri newspaper reported.
Abe is expected to reveal his plans in detail about the emergency situation on Monday, the newspaper added, while another news media called Kyodo said that new government measures would likely come into force on Wednesday.
Public pressure has been building up slowly on the Japanese authorities as to the cases of new coronavirus infection soar, especially in the capital city of Tokyo.
On a note of caution over the coronavirus infection cases that cannot be detected, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike hinted last week that she would support a state-of-emergency announcement as a means to help her urge residents to abide by social-distancing measures.
As per new legislation, approved in March, the prime minister of Japan can unilaterally declare a state of emergency if he thinks that the disease poses a “grave danger” to lives and if its rapid spread could have a huge impact on the national economy.
