African finance ministers seeks IMF, World Bank and EU support on debt relief: UNECA

MarketDeal24.Com – Finance minister from different african countries have expressed their desire for the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank (WB) and EU to support bilateral, multilateral and commercial debt relief due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, said the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

Africa, almost the entire continent is weathering an economic storm of unprecedented nature due to the global economic slowdown, plummeting crude demand and commodity prices and weaker national currencies.

The African finance ministers met via a video-conference on Tuesday which was presided over by both Tito Mboweni and Ken Ofori-Atta, finance ministers of South Africa and Ghana respectively.

This is however, not the first meeting of its kind. An initial meet also took place in March in which ministers from different African nations sought $100 billion stimulus package.

As of now, the total number of infected people with coronavirus in the entire continent of Africa stands at 5,300 with 170 death.
